This piece at The American Spectator examines why there is very little humor in the Islamic world and explains one of the reasons for this blog.

…Muslims have been forced to suppress their sense of humor for centuries, a fact which has doubtless led to its diminution. But there’s another reason Islam seems to lack a funny bone.

See the quote from Khomeini above for one of the major reasons there is no joy in Islam. Islam view of its deity, Allah, the black hole of personality. Since Allah is unknowable, a black hole, he has no personality. All that is knowable is Allah’s will and it must be obeyed at all costs.

Satire and irony are largely Western concepts dating back to Ancient Greece. Aristophanes employed political satire to criticize certain prominent Greeks while Socrates was celebrated for his sense of irony (hence the term Socratic irony). Absurdism is a more recent phenomenon originating with early 20th century Dadaism, and later the surrealists and the Theatre of the Absurd. These were philosophical and artistic forms that highlighted the essential precariousness and meaninglessness of human life, again concepts foreign to Islam.

And one of the reasons for this blog.

Images like Islamic Rage Boy effectively use satire to ridicule the absurdity of Islamofascism. Far from being racist or anti-Islamic satire helps us deal with despotism. It is an all-American form of resistance. Jokes are simply a (mostly) harmless way to let off steam. Perhaps if Muslims joked around a little more there wouldn’t be an Islamic Rage Boy.

The Islamic worldview is a hollow worldview. It is largely incapable of producing anything of value, even in the area of humor, satire and irony.

Foreign Policy has published a list of the stupidest fatwas coming out of Islamic authorities. It notes that there is no central authority in Islam and implies this is the reason for these diversions from rationality. However, Robert Spencer over at JihadWatch.org puts the article in perspective.

Thus this piece on stupid fatawa, as daring as it appears at first glance, given the hair-trigger rage the Islamic world has demonstrated on so many occasions in recent years, is actually just another example of the analytical myopia that prevents us from dealing realistically with the global challenge we’re facing.

The perpetual whiners find another cause to whine. Now their “religion” has been insulted by Hollywood.

Malaysian Muslims have called for a ban on the blockbuster movie “Evan Almighty,” saying it is offensive to their religion, state media reported Friday.

It is just more evidence there is no joy in Islam, not even in the movie theatre.

“The movie refers to the big flood during the time of Prophet Noah, but this has been turned into a comedy which is insulting to Islam,” Secretary-General Maamor Osman told news agency Bernama.
“Featuring a human being as God in the movie is also against Islam,” he added.

More satire and ridicule for the “Death to America” crowd.

More evidence there is no joy in Islam even for a liberal or moderate Muslim. This also makes it even harder to reform those aspects of Islam which are at odds with human rights and modernity.

Riyadh: A religious edict by a prominent Saudi cleric suggesting liberals are not real Muslims has inflamed debate over reforms in the country, with self-professed liberals fearing they will be attacked.

1. Equality of rights before the law:

There is no concept of equality before the law in Islamic law or Sharia.

This article from the NY Times touches a subject that gets sadly too little coverage. It shows the tragic results of the fanatically intolerant religion of Islam.

On a gray day in 1975, the refugees’ parents were driven from their farms here, caught in one of Saddam Hussein’s cruel sectarian relocation plans, residents said. They were given a few hours to gather their possessions and get into army trucks. They ended up in Baghdad.

These Christians were removed from the ancestral lands, according to the NT Times article by Saddam Hussein, without any real explanation for why. The reason they were removed was Arab/Islamic supremacism. Christians usually are descendants of the people who lived in the area called Iraq before the Arab Islamic invasions. Also Kurds are not Arabs but an Indo-European people who inhabited parts of Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran. They were in fact Christians until Islam swept out of Arabia in the 7th century and conquered most of the Middle East.
There is an ethnic tension within Islam between Arab Muslims and other non-Arab Muslims. Therefore the Kurds were singled out by Saddam for persecution and extermination.
These Chritstians ended up in Baghdad and still did not escape persecution and death at the hand of adherents to the religion of peace.

After the American invasion, Sunni militants moved in to control it and began killing barbers, because the Prophet Muhammad wore a beard.

In Islam there is no joy for even barbers.

Baghdad Christians Find New Life in Kurdish North - New York Times

We originally posted on the repression of women in Iran here. The repression continues, only this time we see what happens to members of the opposite sex when they venture out in un-Islamic Western dress and hairstyles.

Nothing like a little forced virtue to get the blood stirred up and make it flow.

Does Allah have a soccer team shirt this guy could wear that would be acceptable to the morals police thugs.

The containers this victim of forced virtue has tied to his neck are found in toilets in Islamic countries. They contain water which is used to clean one self after defecating. Mustn’t forget to inflict degradation and shame when forcing people to conform to Sharia law.

Oh, we never forget the threat of death by beheading for the recalcitrant Muslim or Dhimmi.

Notice that the morals police thugs are wearing masks. I’m not sure if this is to increase the fear factor or necessitated by the fact these guys are probably hated quite a bit and it precludes retaliation by victims.

The repression is getting so bad even the New York Times can’t ignore it:

Young men wearing T-shirts deemed too tight or haircuts seen as too Western have been paraded bleeding through Tehran’s streets by uniformed police officers who force them to suck on plastic jerrycans, a toilet item Iranians use to wash their bottoms. In case anyone misses the point, it is the official news agency Fars distributing the pictures of what it calls “riffraff.” Far bloodier photographs are circulating on blogs and on the Internet.

Just don’t hold your breath waiting for this brutal repression to get as much notoriety as the photos from Abu Ghraib prison. The leftist MSM will see to that.
